Health Information Exchange
 | | Marty Larson | Marty Larson, the director of Clark Champaign Counties Health Information Exchange (HIE), said changes are necessary in the current state of health care. We have the highest per capita cost for health care of any nation but are only ranked 37th in quality by the World Health Organization. Medical errors each year cause 7,000 deaths. Some of the errors result from relying handwritten notes and paper records that cause fragmented data and fragmented care. An estimated $132 million a year could be saved by creating a secure, electronic hub for health information that would reduce errors and eliminate duplicate, unnecessary tests. HIE would allow electronic results delivery, public connectivity, secure messaging, electronic referrals, a health data repository, and electronic health and personal records. The end result would be accessible health that will improve the health of individuals, communities and the nation. Mandates have set 2014 as the date for records to be kept electronically. Larson hopes to have 60 providers online by the end of July and a critical mass doing electronic health information exchange by the end of the year.
Remember…
The main entrance to Casey’s will be closed on Monday, July 7, in order to fix the pavement. You will need to enter Casey’s parking lot either from West Main Street or from the shopping center.
