Pregnancy Resource Center

Left to right, Dr. Angela Jackson, Theresa Silvers and Diana Timmons represented the Pregnancy Resource Center at the Rotary meeting on July 14.

Formerly the Crisis Pregnancy Center, this faith-based organization has existed for about 20 years and expects to see 500-600 pregnant women this year. Mel Marsh cited an article about the high number of teen pregnancies in Clark County when she introduced Diana Timmons, the executive director of the Pregnancy Resource Center. The Center offers pregnancy tests but does not read the results because of liability issues. It recently received a grant to provide prenatal vitamins that help prevent birth defects during the critical first trimester. The Center also offers parenting skills classes that earn points redeemable in the Center’s baby boutique for merchandise. Volunteer physicians, like Dr. Angela Jackson, offer medical consultation and sometimes an ultrasound. Material support is available every 30 days. The Center makes referrals to community resources, provides relationship workshops and offers a support system as it discusses abstinence, educates on STDs and builds relationships with pregnant women.
