District Governor Pat Edwards
 | | Pat Edwards, District Governor, and his wife Suzanne visited the club on August 4. | 30,000 children die daily in this world from preventable diseases. This is why the 2008-09 RI president has targeted safe water and sanitation efforts for his Rotary year. District Governor Pat Edwards said District 6670 has adopted the Kenya project recently started by the Dayton Rotary Club. It will educate, house and provide health services to one of the worst slums in the world. The District is sending a team to explore the project’s needs in August. Edwards, who has been a Rotarian for 45 years, said “Rotary is a chance to give something back.” He encouraged clubs to grow membership by seeking new members and retaining existing ones. The key to growth is having a quality club and presenting quality programs. Edwards noted the soon-to-be-updated District 6670 (www.rotary6670.org) will include a list of program ideas. He encouraged clubs to do more publicity to let people know what Rotary is. He applauded Springfield for offering local youth involvement through the Rotoract Club at Wittenberg University, the student exchange program and the youth leadership event (RYLA). This year’s district family day will be at Young’s Jersey Dairy and will include a large meal, ice cream, and admission to the corn maze, batting range, miniature golf and the petting zoo for one fee.
New Paul Harris Fellow
Jim Roediger received his second Paul Harris fellow as a thank you from the club for his excellent leadership of the membership campaign last year. Congratulations, Jim!
