Westcott House Centennial Tribute

The Westcott House is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2008. It is unique as the only Frank Lloyd Wright-designed prairie-style home in Ohio. Marta Wojcik, from the Westcott House, said over 30,000 visitors have seen it since the house re-opened in 2005. Burton and Orpha Westcott’s unique home was divided into apartments during World War II but has been restored using historic documents and top-notch restoration architects to create a quality restoration that has earned numerous awards. While many house museums are struggling, collaborations with Habitat for Humanity, Eyes Wide Open Worldwide, Dayton Art Institute, BoMA and others continue to bring in visitors. On September 6, a collaboration with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra and the Now Device will combine music with images of the house. The centennial event will be opened by Eric Lloyd Wright, Frank’s grandson. Wojcik likened the rebirth initiatives she is seeing in Springfield with the house’s history as it was born, declined and is now experiencing a rebirth.
